Role of Metastatic Colon Cancer Topography in Pathological and Molecular Variability : A Retrospective Study

Research Abstract
Our study concluded that statistically significant differences exist between metastatic RCC and LCC in terms of age at diagnosis, gender predilection, presenting symptoms, histo-pathology and differentiation, sites of metastases, KRAS status, and response to first-line treatment with chemotherapy plus anti-EGFR therapy. Our study is compatible with the results of most of the recent international studies and now there is a global trend for considering RCC and LCC as a two separate diseases. Further research should be done worldwide for more evaluation of the differences between RCC and LCC especially as regards molecular phenotyping and the response to targeted therapy and immunotherapy.

Reliability of multidetector CT in the diagnosis of cerebrospinal fluid rhinorrhea with operative correlation

Research Abstract
Purpose To evaluate the role of non-contrast multidetector CT (MDCT) reliability in localizing CSF leaks and skull base defects in correlation to operative findings. Materials and methods Twenty patients clinically diagnosed to have CSF rhinorrhea; 8 spontaneous and 12 post-traumatic patients were evaluated using 64-rows MDCT with slice section 0.6 mm. CT is considered accurate if correctly determine the site and size of bony defect as matched with operative findings. Results MDCT accurately detected the site of presumed CSF leak in 19 out of 20 cases with sensitivity 95%. Cribriform plate defect is the most common site of defect in 40% of cases with 75% of cases categorized as Keros type II. The consensus image with fair agreement (K = 0.38) shows that coronal reformat has the highest diagnostic performance in 75% of cases while the least diagnostic value is encountered with the axial plane in 15% of cases …

Adipocytokine, leptin, and resistin in combination with quantitative visceral adiposity as predictors of colorectal neoplasm: A case-control study

Research Abstract
Background: Substantial evidence has supported the association between adipocytokines and many types of cancers. However, the results in the setting of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains conflicting. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the predictive power of adipocytokines (leptin and Rrsistin) levels and abdominal fat distribution in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Methods: Eighty participants were recruited then divided into three groups based on the endoscopic and histopathological investigation. The recruited individuals included 30 patients with colon cancer, 25 with colonic adenoma, and 25 controls. Serum adipocytokines (leptin and resistin) levels were measured, and the quantitative fat analysis was calculated based on an abdominal CT scan. Results: Multivariable logistic regression revealed that two predictors (leptin and resistin) of CRC development could be used. Visceral/superficial fat rate was the most significant predictor among the parameters of quantitative fat analysis. Also, psoas muscle and visceral fat volume showed significant differences among the study groups. Conclusion: Leptin and resistin can be used as a valuable independent predictor for the diagnosis of colorectal cancer. Also, the visceral/superficial fat rate was the most predictor.
