Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, received a report from Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, regarding his official visit to the National Center for Social and Criminological Research. The visit aimed to strengthen academic and research collaboration and implement the provisions of the protocol signed between the two institutions.
The Vice President was welcomed by Dr. Hala Ramadan, Director of the Center, and Dr. Yasser El-Sayed, a senior researcher at the Center. From Assiut University, Dr. Asmaa Gaber Mehran, Professor of Sociology and Protocol Coordinator, also participated in the meeting.
The visit focused on exploring avenues for joint collaboration, activating the protocol’s provisions, exchanging scientific and research expertise in priority societal issues, enhancing the research capacities of both parties, and developing joint training programs and workshops.
Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the University’s commitment to strengthening partnerships with specialized research centers, particularly the National Center for Social and Criminological Research, which possesses substantial expertise in studying societal issues. He noted that this collaboration represents a qualitative addition for the University in applied research and in supporting decision-makers with accurate scientific data and studies.
He added that activating the protocol’s provisions helps link the educational process with societal realities, enhances students’ training opportunities, and equips them to actively participate in research projects that serve national priorities. It also supports evidence-based policy formulation and provides students and faculty with more research and training opportunities, strengthening the University’s role in community service and environmental development, in line with the nation’s sustainable development goals.
Professor Adawy highlighted that the visit marked an important step toward activating the protocol and expanding scientific and research collaboration between Assiut University and the Center. Discussions included implementing training courses for social and psychological specialists at the University, as well as for final-year students in the Faculties of Arts and Social Work, and students in the Public Policy and Information Systems program (PPIS), focusing on data collection and analysis using modern statistical methods.
The visit concluded with an agreement to take practical steps to launch joint research and applied programs, organize scientific and awareness-raising events, and enhance the role of both institutions in serving society and environmental development, supporting state efforts to design public policies grounded in rigorous scientific and research evidence that contribute to achieving sustainable development goals.
