Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector organized today a training workshop titled “Field Follow-Up Procedures for Environmental Practices and Sustainability in Assiut University Colleges”. The workshop targeted the committee overseeing the “Best Environmentally Friendly College” initiative and was chaired by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, with supervision by Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, Professor of Education and General Coordinator of the Committee. The initiative aligns with the University’s commitment to promoting sustainability and environmentally friendly practices across the campus.
Professor El-Minshawy emphasized the University’s dedication to embedding the principles of environmental sustainability, creating a safe, healthy, and sustainable campus environment, raising environmental awareness, enhancing institutional performance, and supporting the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
Professor Mohamed Adawy highlighted that the committee follows a structured plan to monitor and evaluate environmental practices across all university colleges. Key assessment areas include infrastructure, green spaces, transportation, waste management, and recycling initiatives. These criteria aim to foster a sustainable campus environment and encourage healthy competition among colleges, reflecting their commitment to environmental stewardship.
The workshop included presentations by:
- Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamad, who detailed administrative procedures for college visits, technical aspects of evaluating environmental practices, and assessment indicators for green areas, transportation, and specialized units.
- Professor Mohamed Abdel-Baset, Professor at the Faculty of Specific Education and University Safety and Occupational Health Supervisor, who presented safety and occupational health indicators, maintenance and safe storage procedures, and evaluation models.
- Professor Amr Deif, Professor at the Faculty of Science and Academic Coordinator of the Committee, who discussed types of university waste, collection, sorting, evaluation, recycling methods, water conservation, and reuse mechanisms.
The workshop was attended by members of the “Best Environmentally Friendly College” Committee, comprising distinguished faculty from across Assiut University, reinforcing the University’s commitment to sustainability and environmental excellence on campus.
