Assiut University Launches a Comprehensive Development Convoy to Serve the Residents of Bani Zaid Al-Akrad Village in Al-Fath District, in Cooperation with Multiple Assiut-Based Entities

The Community Service and Environmental Development Sector at Assiut University launched, on Saturday, January 10, a comprehensive community development convoy as part of the initiative “Assiut University Development Convoys for Community Benefit.” The convoy was directed to Bani Zaid Al-Akrad Village in Al-Fath District, Assiut Governorate, within the framework of the University’s societal role and its commitment to supporting the most underserved villages.

The initiative was held under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University; the supervision of Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and the coordination of Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Basset, General Coordinator of the Convoys, in cooperation with Dr. Marwa Kedwany, Rapporteur of the National Council for Women in Assiut.

The convoy was organized in collaboration with the National Council for Women (Assiut Branch), the Directorate of Veterinary Medicine in Assiut, the Directorate of Youth and Sports in Assiut, and the Information Technology Institute in Assiut, representing a model of institutional integration and partnership with executive bodies in the governorate.

Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy affirmed that comprehensive development convoys constitute one of the main pillars of Assiut University’s community engagement mission. He emphasized the University’s commitment to mobilizing its scientific, medical, and awareness-raising capacities to serve citizens in the most underserved villages, in line with the State’s vision for sustainable development and human development. He added that the Bani Zaid Al-Akrad convoy reflects effective integration among the University’s various faculties and fruitful partnership with state institutions, contributing to the delivery of integrated services that make a tangible difference in citizens’ lives. He also stressed the University’s continued implementation of such convoys in support of the “Decent Life (Hayah Karima)” initiative and in fulfillment of its national responsibility toward society.

For his part, Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy explained that the convoy included a diverse package of activities and services, foremost among them the medical convoy of the Faculty of Medicine, where 248 patients were examined, including 49 internal medicine cases34 chest disease cases57 pediatric cases63 orthopedic surgery cases, and 45 ear, nose, and throat (ENT) cases.

The medical convoy was conducted under the supervision of Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of University Hospitals; Professor Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Dr. Amr Mohamed, Supervisor of the Medical Convoys Center. Participating physicians included Dr. Aya Ahmed (Internal Medicine), Dr. Mona Adel (Chest Diseases), Dr. Mohamed Mohsen (Pediatrics), Dr. Ahmed Mostafa (Orthopedic Surgery), and Dr. Doaa Mohamed (ENT), in addition to Mr. Alaa Mohamed Amin, Administrative Supervisor of the Medical Convoys, and 10 male and female students.

Regarding the diagnostic and awareness convoy of the Faculty of Dentistry68 cases were examined, and 35 cases were referred to the Faculty of Dentistry Hospital. In addition, an awareness campaign on oral cancer and bruxism (teeth grinding) was conducted, benefiting 82 individuals. This activity was supervised by Professor Safaa Marzouk, Dean of the Faculty; Dr. Mohamed Nahed, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development; with participation from Mohamed Zein El-Abedeen (Assistant Lecturer – Endodontics), Ms. Rehab Gamal (Teaching Assistant – Pediatric Dentistry), Dr. Irene Magdy and Dr. Mariam Emad (Intern Dentists), and student Waad Haidar.

The veterinary convoy of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine served 1,033 cases, including 13 cases in Surgery, Anesthesia, and Radiology; 120 cases in Obstetrics and Gynecology; 225 cases in Animal Medicine; 345 cases in Poultry and Avian Diseases; and 330 cases in Animal and Poultry Health. The convoy was supervised by Professor Enas Ahmed Abdel-Hafez, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Mahmoud Roshdy, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, with participation from Professor Thabet Abdel-Monem (Forensic Medicine and Toxicology), Professor Mohamed Ahmed Hamdy (Animal Surgery), Professor Ahmed Khalaf Abdel-Hamid (Poultry Diseases), along with a number of physicians, students, administrative supervisors, and workers.

In the same context, the educational and awareness convoy of the Faculty of Nursing focused on health education related to pregnancyprevention and treatment methods, and the importance of proper nutrition, benefiting 40 individuals. The activities were supervised by Professor Fatma Roshdy, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Nahed Shawky, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, with participation from Professor Marzouka Abdel-Aziz (Pediatric Nursing) and Dr. Aya Mostafa (Women’s Health and Obstetrics Nursing).

The program also included an awareness convoy by the Faculty of Computers and Information, during which a training course on cybercrime and safe internet use was delivered, benefiting 40 participants. This was supervised by Professor Taysir Hassan Abdel-Hamid, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Dalia Nashaat, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, with participation from Dr. Fatma Abdel-Halim, Lecturer at the Department of Information Technology, and attendance by Ms. Yasmin Mohamed and Ms. Ekram Abdel-Wahab, Teaching Assistants at the Information Technology Institute in Assiut.

In addition, a specialized convoy by the Faculty of Specific Education was implemented, covering clothing, nutrition, and artistic awareness. The activities included an awareness session on the importance of healthy nutrition, training on printing images on T-shirts, and encouraging participants to establish small-scale projects in these fields. The convoy benefited 60 participants and was supervised by Professor Yasmin El-Kahky, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Basset, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development and General Coordinator of the Convoys, with participation from Dr. Zeinab Abdel-HafezDr. Lobna Abdel-Azim (Assistant Professors, Home Economics), Dr. Sara Alaa El-Din (Lecturer, Home Economics), Dr. Hend El-Sherif (Lecturer, Art Education), Dr. Hanan Abdel-Rahman (Lecturer, Art Education), Mr. Mahmoud Talaat and Ms. Amal Shaheen (Teaching Assistants, Art Education), and Mr. Ahmed Ali Ahmed from the Vice Dean’s Office.

Within the community framework, an awareness convoy by the Faculty of Social Work was conducted, aiming to raise community awareness of various social issues to help achieve a dignified life. The convoy benefited 50 individuals and was supervised and attended by Professor Mohamed Soliman, Dean of the Faculty, with participation from Mohamed Abdel-Azim (Assistant Lecturer, Fields of Social Work), Mr. Khalil Finyar Khalil (Assistant Lecturer, Community Organization), Mr. Mohamed El-Fateh and Ms. Ansaf Adel (Teaching Assistants, Group Work), and Alaa Mamdouh, Master’s Researcher.

The Faculty of Arts also organized an educational course on sound socialization methodsthe risks of addiction, and the foundations of successful family relationships, benefiting 50 participants. The activity was supervised by Professor Magdy Alwan, Dean of the Faculty, and Dr. Hamed Abdel-Hamid, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, with attendance by Dr. Ahmed Kamal, Head of the Department of Sociology, and Professor Hamdallah Ahmed Kilani, Professor of Sociology.

Dr. Mohamed Abdel-Basset, General Coordinator of the Convoys, stated that organizing such convoys falls within the plan of the University’s Community Service and Environmental Development Sector to strengthen partnerships with state institutions, support sustainable development efforts, and achieve tangible, on-the-ground impact that improves citizens’ quality of life and enhances their health and social awareness.

The convoys were also attended by Professor Mohamed Mostafa Hamdy, Professor at the Faculty of Education and assigned to evaluating and measuring the impact of the convoys and proposing development mechanisms; Ms. Reham El-Hefnawy, General Director of the Office of the Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; and Mr. El-Husseiny El-Tayeb, Director of the Technical Office Administration at the General Administration of the Vice President’s Office for Community Service and Environmental Development.
