Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, inaugurated on Wednesday, December 24, the exhibition of the “Oil Painting Model” Competition organized by the Oil Painting Division of the Painting Department at the Faculty of Fine Arts. The exhibition was held from December 14 to 17, under the supervision of Professor Ahmed Abdel-Mawla, Vice President for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy, Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts.
The opening ceremony was attended by Professor Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research; Professor Mohamed Ahmed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Alaa Atiya, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine; and Dr. Haitham Ibrahim, Director General of Student Welfare at the University.
The exhibition was organized under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Abdel-Hakim, Vice Dean for Education and Student Affairs, and Professor Sahar Boutros Naguib, Head of the Painting Department and Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development.
During his tour of the exhibition, Professor El-Minshawy praised the outstanding artistic quality of the displayed works, affirming that the exhibition reflects Assiut University’s commitment to supporting student creativity, nurturing artistic talent, and linking academic study with practical application. He emphasized that such activities contribute to refining students’ skills and preparing graduates who possess both scientific and practical competence, enabling them to compete effectively in the labor market. He also highlighted the role of these activities in enhancing public taste, reinforcing cultural identity, and developing artistic awareness among youth, with positive implications for society and the university’s standing as a hub for education and creativity.
For his part, Professor Mohamed Helmy El-Hefnawy explained that the competition aimed to equip students with the artistic skills required for graduation projects and to provide hands-on training in various painting techniques. This practical training, he noted, contributes to producing distinguished graduation projects that reflect the high academic and professional standards of the participating students from the Oil Painting Division, whose number reached 19 students. He added that the artworks were executed using oil paints on canvas.
The exhibition also featured the distribution of certificates of appreciation and awards to the winners of the first six places in the competition: Sara Essam, Mariz Behgat, Shorouk Ashraf, Kyrillos Ayman, Karima Abdel-Latif, and Mari Kamal.
In addition, the exhibition included the participation of 14 students from the Mural Painting Division of the department, who presented mural works produced as part of the educational process during the first academic semester. These works were executed using mosaic materials, and certificates of appreciation were awarded to the distinguished students: Ahmed Salah, Shahd Ashraf, Shifaa Mohamed, Sandra Aouny, Menatallah Rashwan, Demiana Sameh, Sara Agamy, and Shaimaa Salah El-Din.
The event was attended by a number of faculty members from the Painting Department, including Dr. Walaa Ahmed, Dr. Mohsen Ahmed, Dr. Hany Tharwat, and Dr. Naglaa Badrawy, in addition to members of the teaching assistant staff at the Faculty of Fine Arts.
