Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, announced a major achievement for the University in international rankings, with Assiut University climbing 100 positions in the 2025 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings compared to last year. This milestone reflects the University’s ongoing institutional efforts to enhance sustainability practices on campus.
Professor El-Minshawy emphasized that the GreenMetric results highlight Assiut University’s success in embedding environmental sustainability within education, research, and community service. He described the achievement as a clear indicator of the effectiveness of the University’s policies and strategic initiatives in this critical area.
The advancement is the outcome of a comprehensive strategic and implementation plan, which focused on developing infrastructure, supporting environmentally-related research, and applying sustainable practices across campus. These measures strengthen Assiut University’s position as a competitive institution at the local, regional, and international levels.
Prof. Gamal Badr, Vice President for Graduate Studies and Research, noted that sustainability is a strategic priority for the University, aligned with Egypt’s Vision 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This approach supports a modern university model that promotes innovation and attracts students and researchers with a focus on environmental issues.
Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, emphasized that UI GreenMetric is one of the leading international rankings assessing universities’ environmental and institutional performance. Participation in this ranking enhances Assiut University’s reputation, improves campus quality of life, encourages environmentally responsible behavior among students and staff, and expands opportunities for global academic and research collaborations.
Dr. Omar Shaaban, Director of the Academic Ranking Office, explained that GreenMetric’s methodology evaluates six main dimensions: campus setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water, transportation, and education & research. Each dimension includes precise indicators measuring the university’s commitment to sustainability on campus.
The preparation of Assiut University’s GreenMetric submission involved a dedicated team including Professor Mahmoud Abdel-Aleem (Obstetrics & Gynecology), Dr. Amr Abu Faddan (Deputy Director, Academic Ranking Office), Eng. Heba Allah Mohamed (Deputy Director, E-Portal Project), and Ms. Shaimaa Samir (Administrative Director).
