Under the patronage of Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University, the Youth Health
Center, affiliated with the Department of Public Health at the Faculty of Medicine, organized a health awareness day for school students as part of the University’s ongoing efforts to serve the community and promote health awareness among students at various educational stages. The event was held under the supervision of Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of the University for Community Service and Environmental Development, and Professor Alaa Attia, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Chairman of the Board of Assiut University Hospitals.
Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that Assiut University places great importance on strengthening health awareness within the community, particularly among school students, given its direct impact on building a generation capable of adopting healthy lifestyles. He explained that organizing health activities in schools aims to educate students about proper nutrition and healthy habits that help prevent malnutrition-related diseases and enhance their cognitive abilities and academic performance, in support of the state’s vision to invest in the health of the Egyptian citizen and improve quality of life.
The health awareness day included a series of educational seminars and lectures addressing malnutrition, obesity, and stunting, in addition to explaining the principles of planning healthy meals and methods for strengthening the immune system. Participants were also encouraged to avoid fast food and carbonated drinks, while highlighting the positive impact of healthy habits on mental activity and academic achievement.
Comprehensive nutritional assessments were conducted for students to measure body composition indicators, including fat, water, protein percentages, muscle mass, and caloric levels. Random blood glucose tests were also performed for teachers and school staff. These activities were carried out under the supervision of faculty members from the Department of Public Health, with the participation of Dr. Mariam Roshdy El-Khayat.
The program also featured awareness sessions on preparing balanced meals and the importance of physical activity in improving concentration and academic performance, with the participation of members of the Assiut Therapeutic Nutrition Association, under the supervision of Professor Osama El-Ashir, Professor of Pediatrics.
The event was organized by Professor Hoda Makhlouf, Vice Dean of the Faculty of Medicine for Community Service and Environmental Development; Professor Akram Abdel-Khaleq, Head of the Department of Public Health; and Dr. Medhat Al-Arabi, Director of the Youth Health Center.
The Assiut University team was received by the administration of Smart International School, headed by Ms. Samah Helmy, General Director of Schools; Ms. Bothaina Obaid, Head of the Language Section; Major General Ahmed Salem; and Ms. Rola Refaat Riyad, who expressed their appreciation for the University’s community outreach efforts and its continued commitment to promoting student health and raising awareness of the principles of a healthy lifestyle.
