Assiut University has announced the organization of the 13th International Conference on Development and Environment in the Arab World, scheduled for April 14–15, 2026, under the title “Sustainable Development: Present Realities and Future Prospects.”
The conference will be held under the patronage of Dr. Mohamed Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research; Professor Manal Awad Mikhael, Minister of Local Development and Acting Minister of Environment; Major General Dr. Hisham Abu Al-Nasr, Governor of Assiut; and Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy, President of Assiut University.
The conference will be supervised by Professor Mohamed Adawy, Vice President of Assiut University for Community Service and Environmental Development and Conference Chair, and Dr. Mahmoud Abdel-Alim, Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Honorary Chair of the Conference, with the participation of a distinguished group of scientists, researchers, and experts from across the Arab world.
Professor Ahmed El-Minshawy emphasized that the conference represents an important scientific platform to strengthen Assiut University’s research role in supporting international efforts toward achieving sustainable development, particularly in the post-COP29 phase. He added that the conference will highlight the latest scientific trends in environmental and public health fields and present applied solutions to pressing environmental challenges through discussions on food security, climate change, sustainable resource management, the green economy, biotechnology, and innovations supporting human health.
The University President noted that the conference is one of the largest periodic scientific events organized by Assiut University and reflects the commitment of the Community Service and Environmental Development Sector to supporting Egypt’s national vision for a more sustainable future and improving quality of life across the Arab world.
For his part, Professor Mohamed Adawy explained that this year’s conference will address several key themes, including the role of technology and artificial intelligence in environmental protection and pollution monitoring; the transition to clean energy and the challenges of carbon neutrality; sustainable waste management and the promotion of responsible consumption and production patterns; water resource management policies within the framework of the blue economy; ecosystem restoration, biodiversity conservation, and environmental security.
He added that the conference will also focus on social sustainability and future scenarios by addressing social justice, education for sustainability, approaches to poverty reduction, and the reinforcement of social identity. In addition, the agenda will cover mechanisms for sustainable financing, support for innovation and green entrepreneurship, and the transition toward a circular economy.
Preparations for the conference are being carried out in coordination between the Sustainable Development Center, headed by Professor Saleh Mahmoud Ismail, Center Director and Secretary General of the Conference, and the Center for Environmental Studies and Research, headed by Professor Ahmed Hamza El-Husseini, Center Director and Conference Rapporteur, alongside scientific and organizing committees comprising specialized experts from within and outside the University.
Conference activities will include scientific sessions, specialized workshops, and an accompanying exhibition for research institutions and environmental organizations. Electronic registration and online paper submission will also be available through the official conference website to facilitate participation by researchers from various Arab countries.
